Hello again...

What do ya know?! We blinked and another few weeks have passed! We have been busy taking care of things around the house and wrapping the school year with state testing. David has really been enjoying the warmer weather and the opportunities to play in the yard.

We started off by having some new flooring installed in the house so I stayed home with David. We were fortunate to have some great weather and we spent most of the day in the backyard. I was glad to see David finally getting over his fear of dirt. Several times in the morning he buried his cars in the dirt and then took them to the "car wash."

David's daycare was closed for a couple of days so Emily stayed home with David and took him and a friend to the OKC Zoo one day. They both really liked the animals, but I think the new children's zoo section was hit! Emily said they were cute picking their favorite goats to pet.

We have also been working in the yard. I decided to give gardening a try, so we built a "square foot garden." After we put the plants and seeds in the ground David was ready to cook them, but I had to explain to him that they needed to grow some more. We also signed David up for an indoor soccer league this summer. He was so excited when we told him that he wanted to go outside to "play practice."

I am pretty proud of our tiny homestead. I have always been a little disappointed with the size of our backyard, but we have managed to fit a garden, a swingset/fort, and a mini-soccer field back there all in the last year. I didn't know we could be so efficient!

The Alphabet

A few days ago, David and I were helping Kyle make yummy tortillas, and while David was waiting to lift the tortilla container lid, out of nowhere he started spelling what was written on it. "T-O-R-T-I-L-L-A! Look, there are two L's, Mama!" Then he spelled the words written on the sour cream label! I cannot express how fast and happy my heart beat with excitement!

Then, several nights ago, we were reading his current two favorite books, BACKYARDIGANS OPPOSITES book and ALPHABET book. During the OPPOSITES book, he wanted to spell all the words; the last two at the end are "Hello!" and "Goodbye!" As he was spelling "Hello!" he noticed the exclamation point and replied, "Mama, the i's upside-down! Silly book!"

Ways of the World

David caught some fever virus that's going around at daycare, so Kyle stayed home with him yesterday because of a high fever, and today was my turn. We played and put together his world floor map and made a plan for the day. We were going to go to the doctor's, get his medicine, and go eat Taco Bueno burritos. He interjected, "Mama, go Starbucks!?" So he grabbed a few dollars from his bank because he wanted to by us a cookie.

We waited at the doctor's forever, but the highlight came when Nurse Kelly (who gives him all his shots) entered the room to swab his throat for a strep test. David's brow furrowed, he grabbed his left arm, and asked, "No gonna hurt me?" Nurse Kelly replied, "No, I'm not going to make you cry! I'm just going to tickle your throat." Poor Nurse Kelly, but that was too cute!!

The other highlight came when David pulled out his money to buy a chocolate chip cookie. He was so proud!

Spring Break 2010

Just a quick update and some pictures from Spring Break...

We started the week with decent weather and a trip to the zoo. David loved seeing the animals, but I think this time he enjoyed the playground area the most.

The end of the break brought us some interesting weather and David is starting to understand the awesomeness of snow. He tried to clean up the yard with his lawnmower. Next, I showed off some of my ninja skills with a sneak attack during the snowball fight. For the finale, I did my impression of a horse and pulled David around the yard. Lots of fun!!!
Also.... We bought a fancy camera and I have been playing with it to see what it can do. Fortunately I was able to capture a few shots of my classroom helpers. They are usually pretty shy.

My Favwite New Toy

As the weather has warmed up Emily and I have begun thinking about what we are going to do with the backyard now that the dogs have been walled off and the yard is pooh free. In addition to the little pool we bought last year we have decided to add a tower/swing set (aka the Man Cave).

We brought the set home earlier in the week and I started piecing the frame together. Poppy and Granna come over yesterday to help finish the thing off. It took us all morning and a few hours after our lunch break at Long John Silvers to get everything in place and bolted down. David was amazed each time Granna brought him into the backyard as he got to see the newest addition to the Man Cave. David was very thankful for their help (and the ice cream after we finished!).

We played again after church and David announced that it was his "new favwite toy." He was a great tour guide and showed us everything that could be done at the Man Cave. I continued Granna's lesson on how to be an airplane and I tried to show him how to use the acrobat bar, but he said that I was too big. :) We all had a great time!!!
